Pasta Zanmai @ 1 Utama Petaling Jaya

Sunday, October 26, 2008

Pasta Zanmai has got to be one of the best hidden eateries in 1 Utama. You may have walk past the row it is on many times over and miss it completely. It hides behind its sister company, Japanese mini mart Shojikiya.
Pasta Zanmai has even adopted pasta by creating Japanese pasta. Their version is rather contemporary as the pasta (spaghetti look-a-like noodles) is said to be thinner than Italian spaghetti. They merge Italian cuisine with Japanese pasta, offer a more fashionable fare, creating Japanese pasta dishes cooked with Japanese ingredients. The result….. Let’s just say the combination is interesting, one the palate requires no time in getting used to.

Pasta Zanmai’s sesame sauce spaghetti. Made from sesame seeds ground into a smooth paste, the nutty texture adds a dollop of luxury to any dish. That’s why it is their signature dish. Adding that you grind the black sesame seeds and sprinkle your pasta with it. It is very aromatic and can be quite addictive especially, if you love the smell of sesame seeds.

Beside pasta, there is pizza too, and they also caters to its rice-eating diners. Apart from the usual rice meal sets, there is omu rice, a contraction of omelette rice. It’s similar to Nasi Pattaya, except the egg is scrambled to envelop the fried rice. Interestingly, at Pasta Zanmai, you eat the pasta with chopsticks instead of a fork and spoon, adding to that Japanese experience.

It’s recommended that you pay a visit and promised that you wouldn't regret it.

A must try. Fusion between West(mostly Itallian) and Oriental taste. The sauce is unique. Do try the sesame sauce pasta. A refreshing experience.
