Joe’s Place Kopitiam @ Plaza Damas, Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur

Monday, November 24, 2008

A Kopitiam is a traditional breakfast and coffee shop found in Malaysia and Singapore. The word is a portmanteau of the Malay word for coffee and the Hokkien dialect word for shop (tiàm). Menus typically feature simple offerings: a variety of foods based on egg, toast and kaya & butter plus coffee, tea and Milo. This particular kopitiam in Sri Hartamas located at a corner shoplot. Mostly cater people who are working around the area and come here for their breakfast before punching in for work.

First glance at their menu, you’ll notice that they serve quite a variety of Otak-Otak dishes. They have Otak-Otak Nasi Lemak (Not bad, boleh tahan), Otak-Otak Bun, Otak-Otak Dumpling and Otak-Otak itself. However, their Egg Omelet Breakfast set is a total failure. Couple of toasts, a portion of Red Bean (Canned), slices of lettuce and Fried Beaten Egg (That’s all)……An omelet usually folded around a filling such as cheese, vegetable (tomato), meat (often ham), or some combination of the above. Their omelet so plain….worse than making in at home.
