New Restaurant Ipoh Chicken Rice @ Jalan Gasing, PJ

Thursday, November 20, 2008

New Restaurant Ipoh Chicken Rice in Jalan Gasing has serves the best chicken rice in town since 1977 and many have said they are one of the few that started chicken rice business in PJ at 70s. First thing to note - there are quite a few schools here, so you might want to avoid this place at a certain school hour. There are also many churches in this area so going for Sunday brunch/lunch could be a bit of a hassle.

They occupied 2 shop lots, and getting a table shouldn’t be too tricky unless you go right in the middle of lunch time. The restaurant recently renovated (with open kitchen concept, you can see all the activities) and now it’s sparkling new and clean, unlike last time, you can notice the floor is very oily.
In any chicken rice stall, a good chili sauce is a must and luckily, their sauce is still blended to perfection when mixed with ginger and garlic. As for the Steamed Village Chicken, it is not the best one in town but certainly very satisfying. The texture of the chicken is chewy and it release chicken flavor with each bite. The gravy (soy sauce) was quite good too especially when mixing it with the rice. Sad to note that the ‘Char Siew’ is quite bad, the sauce is very very sweet and the texture of the meat is hard (not recommended).
The Pork Ball is nothing special or another way to say it is that you could buy it from a wet market. Generally, people still visiting here due to the long establishment of the restaurant and quite frankly, the chicken rice is just over the average score. So, it is believe that somewhere or somehow or sometime in the future, the best chicken rice is still out there waiting to be found (stay tune).

The chicken meat is oklah. The place where we went to in Kota Damansara (rated earlier in this blog) is better. The black sauce accompanying the chicken is very plain. The BBQ pork meat is overcooked (not tender at all) and the sauce is too sweet. There were too much sweet sauce on the meat that one couldn't really taste the marinated sauce for the BBQ pork. The pork ball at 'lok lok' taste better. This experience has been quite disappointing. I remembered the old taste when the shop was located at the corner lot. It was so much better then.
