Sushi Zanmai @ The Gardens, Mid Valley City

Sunday, November 2, 2008

In Japanese cuisine, sushi, is vinegar rice, usually topped with other ingredients, including fish, various meats, and vegetables. There are various types of sushi: sushi served rolled inside nori (dried and pressed layer sheets of seaweed or alga) called makizushi or rolls; sushi made with toppings laid with hand-formed clumps of rice called nigirizushi; toppings stuffed into a small pouch of fried tofu called inarizushi; and toppings served scattered over a bowl of sushi rice called chirashi-zushi.

Sushi Zanmai is a very nice and reasonably priced Japanese restaurant in The Gardens in Mid Valley. The ambience is perfect and gives the feeling of a modern Japanese deco. It took some time to decide what to order. Believe it; the menu is so big and extensive that you do not know what to order. One can be spoil with too many choices.
The salmon slices were thick, freshed and absolutely delicious after dipping it slightly with the wasabi and soy sauce. No sushi meal would be complete without unagi, their unagi with rice is just nice to compliment both tastes. As for tofu, it stood up firmly and didn’t wobble around. On top of that, the outer layer was fried till a very light golden brown color and has slight crispiness in it.
Overall, the food is great, Sushi Zanmai’s food are above average. Of course there are better Japanese food but Sushi Zanmai is not in the same league as them. Looking at the pricing, it is only fair to compare Sushi Zanmai with other Japanese food chain like Sushi King and Genki Sushi. However, Sushi Zanmai provide more varieties.

One of the place to go for sushi. A comfortable environment for catching up with friends and family while admiring the beautiful creations passing by on the conveyor belt. Feel free to pick one.
