Yu Kee Bak Ku Teh Restaurant @ Subang Jaya

Sunday, November 9, 2008

Yu Kee started as a stall in SS15 in the early 1990s and then moved to SS14 in 1998. The restaurant is run by a Lee family from Kepong. The few brothers manning it take turns to run the place hence allowing the shop to be open 15 hours a day. As SS14 area has a rather large numbers of bak ku teh restaurants, Yu Kee is considering one of the more popular. The restaurant is located direct opposite of Metropolitan College.
They are famous for its prime cuts of meat and generous portions. The pork ribs and meat in the bak kut teh is good. It’s just nice, tender and not too dry or tough. The soup is also not too herby, not those thick type and rich enough in flavor, resulting in countless requests of extra soup (which is free). Their rice is oiled with lard and mixed with eu chang (deep-sliced shallots) and fried “you tiao” with the bak kut teh.
In short, it’s cheap and affordable (especially for students which studying nearby), and it’s not a bad idea to go SS14 to try it.
