(Char Kuey Teow) OK Restaurant @ TTDI, Kuala Lumpur

Tuesday, December 2, 2008

Char Kuey Teow is a popular noodle dish in Malaysia and Singapore. Kuey Teow is made from rice, approximately 1 cm or slightly narrower in width, fried over very high heat with light and dark soy sauce, chili, prawns, cockles, egg, bean sprouts and Chinese chives. Sometimes slices of Chinese sausage and fish cake are added. Some people fried in pork fat, with crisp croutons of pork lard which gives an extra taste. Char Kuey Teow has a reputation of being unhealthy due to its fat content. This particular stall in TTDI located at Restaurant OK (corner lot), it said to be one of the best Char Kuey Teow in town, with a notorious reputation of being too spicy. Of course, you can request for no spicy or not too spicy (lar).

Presentation wise, their Char Kuey Teow was not very oily and is not as dry compared to the Penang style. There's a generous portion of bean sprouts mixed with egg. Taste wise, it turned out to be very delicious and had a unique good taste which others don’t have. The prawns are fresh and sweet, giving the dish a boost in taste. It is certainly a par above the rest.

Yes best Kuey Teow in Town. Don't forget their Curry Mee, I have been eating at their stall for the past 20 years, curry is cooked in the morning and by 1pm it is sold out. No overnight stuff. the best of the best ...
