(Ah Wah Hokkien Fried Mee) Millennium Eighty Six Restaurant @ Paramount Garden, Petaling Jaya

Friday, January 9, 2009

Hokkien Mee refers to fried noodles cooked in Hokkien (Fujian) Style. Hokkien mee is served in many Southeast Asian countries (mostly Malaysia and Singapore) and was brought there by immigrants from Fujian Province in Southeastern China.

This established Ah Wah Hokkien Fried Mee Stall in Millennium Eighty Six Restaurant which located in Paramount Garden, is one of the 2 Famous Hokkien Fried Mee Stalls. The other one is not far from this stall (will review next time….).

For a plate of their Hokkien Mee/Kuey Teow, the Kuey Teow dripping with thick sauce, loads of fried lard, slices of pork and prawns complete this absolutely sinful meal. “Ah Wah” uses quite amount of dark soy sauce and pork scratching, and fried just long enough to bring out the flavor of the noodles. It does tend to be rather oily (YUM YUM!!!).

Next dish is the “Wa Tan Hor” and it is just a so-so dish. Even though the sauce is tasty, the chef didn’t use the right amount of corn starch and egg mixture and end-result, the sauce is a bit watery. In addition, the noodle is rather sticky.

For those who are familiar with PJ Paramount Garden area, this restaurant is not really hard to find, so go try!
