Chef Loong Restaurant @ SS2, Petaling Jaya

Friday, February 27, 2009

P1020754
Chef Loong Restaurant is located in the heart of SS2, a place which popular with plentiful of its eating places, cafés and restaurants. The restaurant stands out from the others by serving authentic Chinese snacks/refreshments. It’s quite a popular place and it’s reasonably priced and fairly convenient being placed in SS2. It’s pretty easy to find, opposite the open air mamak area.

The interior is pretty standard with some random Chinese calligraphy on the wall, and the usual aluminum tables, chairs and etc. Their menu is pretty decent with a good range of crunchy stuff, fried stuff and a few refreshing dishes and of course some desserts to finish off your gluttony.

The drinks….. Sugar Cane Chestnut (Hot and Cold) and Double Boiled Apple with White Fungus…
1
The Shanghai Prawn Ramen, is quite ok or maybe just a little below average, because the soup is bland. But the prawn dumplings are tasteful.
P1020704
Next, the Clay Pot Spare Ribs Rice, freshly cooked out from the kitchen. Be careful that it’s extremely hot and rice is fragrance. The spare ribs is alright….nice.
P1020721
The Deep Fried Spare Ribs, is definitely worth a try.
P1020706
Then the Deep Fried Wan Tan, is pretty crispy and flavorful.
P1020709
The Special Sauce Shanghai Wan Tan, like the conventional prawn dumplings or better known as “har gao”, Chef Loong serves prawn dumplings with nicely wrapped skin which garnish with their homemade special sauce on top of the dumplings.
P1020714
Last, the Bean Curb Roll with Seafood, patrons will love the crunchy skin and the big savory prawns….

Dharoos Restaurant @ Damansara Utama (Uptown), Petaling Jaya

Thursday, February 26, 2009

P1020660
Dharoos is located at Uptown where tons of workforce scarty around. So business here is usually very good. As mentioned in the earlier blog, the mamak shop has been etched permanently into Malaysian culture, much in part because of its ubiquitous nature. The mamak is very much a melting pot of cultures, a symbol of multiracial harmony.

The drink to order is of course the teh-tarik (Pull Tea). It is made of this sinfully sweet condensed milk and only-mamak-knows-what brand of tea because you can’t ever get the same fragrance elsewhere. The concoction is put into a mug and the mamak will ‘pull’ the tea in another mug.
P1020663
Hot foods like Nasi Lemak, rice, roti canai, tandoori and here, they do serve Western foods and available 24/7, 365 days a year. Their Nasi Lemak is quite ok but sadly to note that it is icy cold. Luckily the fried chicken is hot (freshly made).
P1020666
If you go to any mamak stall, you have to leave all the health advices at home or else you won’t be able to enjoy your trip. Take for example this piece of innocently look roti planta. They prepare this from a piece of wheat flour dough and the dough is stretch to a big piece. Then, they add in a huge blob of planta to make this deliciously good.

Bianco Restaurant @ Damansara Perdana, Petaling Jaya

Monday, February 23, 2009

P1020579
Bianco is situated in Damansara Perdana. The restaurant is not very big and mainly outdoor sitting, under the stars, or if it rains, it has a canopy handy. Most of the seating is located open air.

As for the interior, it was modern and airy - with a large open area in the courtyard area (with a retractable awning just in case it rains) and another smaller but cozy covered area at the side.
P1020587
Scanning the menu, the range of food seems much focused (in other words: limited) due to their concept. One of the friendly wait staff explained that they are designed to be a place where patrons can get a light, guilt free Italian meal. Some said that the strength of Bianco is focus on the service and quality of food.

For drinks, the Ice Chocolate and Bianco Passion…….Ice Chocolate is quite good actually and Bianco Passion is coolly and refreshing…
1
The Vegetarian Linguine, it is Linguini and homemade spinach cream topped with grated parmeson and garnish with toasted pine nuts. As all the three ingredients should be eaten together to get the unique fusion of taste, with the almost crunchy bits of fresh toasted pine nuts and the subtle aromas of the spinach sauce.
P1020590
The Fettuccine Carbonara comes with beef bacon, baby asparagus & mushrooms and dress with cream sauce. The portion is small. The beef bacon goes very well with the mushroom and baby asparagus, and taste great with the warm cream sauce…..yumyumyum…
P1020591
All Bianco’s pizzas are thin crust pizza, so for this Pizza Pollo, is topped with grilled herb chicken, roasted onion, pineapple and barbeque sauce. The taste combination is exceptional, blending the ingredients that go so well together….
P1020595
The Pizza Carne, is a classic Italian pizza. The pizza topped with the classic pepperoni, beef bacon, grilled chicken, turkey ham, onions and olives. The crust is crispy and tasty.
P1020596
After all these delicious meals, patrons should try the Elvis Presley Pizza. It is well known that Elvis Presley’s favorite food was deep fried peanut butter and banana sandwich, hence the name! Topped with soft gooey melting peanut butter, fresh baked banana, chocolate sprinkles and caramelized nuts, it tasted great especially when eaten straight from the oven…..must try!!!
P1020603
Generally, Bianco is a casual yet stylish ambiance with friendly staff, yummy light Italian food at a average price but very limited menu (only pizza, pasta and a handful of starters and desserts).

Sin Choi Wah Restaurant @ Bandar Baru Sri Damansara, Kepong

Sunday, February 22, 2009

P1020532
Patrons can get good and simple Chinese food in Kepong and well, look no further than Sin Choi Wah Restaurant is the one. It has been in Kepong for many years, and has a fine reputation for their “Tai Chow” and Chinese Cuisine. It’s not just the food - it’s the décor as well. The restaurants are full of original 80s and 90s décors.

There are a few must-try dishes here and the service is quite ok. Their famous Roast Chicken, it is delicious, a totally different style from the normal you can get.
P1020555
Next, Deep Fried Tofu tops with Mince Meat! The serving of tofu is small but it is fantastic and very tasteful indeed. The mince meat goes quite well with a plate of steamed white rice.
P1020542
The Marmite Pork is also another recommendation. The meat is tender and cooks in a thick sticky marmite sauce and the gravy is not too overpowering. Just sweet and a little bit sour is just the right balance….tasty…..
P1020547
The meal is incomplete without a plate of vegetables, in this case, “Yao Mak” (Romanien Lettuce). The Yao Mak is stir-fried with chili, garlic and fermented bean curd.
P1020551
Overall, it is reasonable prices for such delicious cuisine.

Bean’s Dessert Kitchen Restaurant @ SS15, Subang Jaya

Saturday, February 21, 2009

P1020520
If you are looking for simple desserts in the vicinity of Subang Jaya? Why not give Bean's Dessert Kitchen a try. Serving a variety of tongshui (sweet dessert) and herbal drinks daily, they also serve simple meals not uncommon to those usually found at local cafes and “Char Chan Teng". SS15 is best known for the colleges in the area……because of that, their menu is reasonable prices and just right for students.
P1020522
Located in a corner shop, they do have pretty interesting menu and it looks like they have also branched out to serve lunches with chicken chop, snacks and local offerings. They have lots of tong sui offerings ranging from a three bean dessert, green beans with sweet potatoes, wheat, peanut, barley and gingko, and special tong sui. This tong sui, the bubur chacha is ok and steaming hot.
P1020527
The Honey Fried Sausages is quite good actually and with a great amount of honey in the dish, it’s tasty and mouthwatering. It’s pretty good for a midnight snack.
P1020528
As for the Curry Chicken Udon, it’s nice that they blend quite well together and the flavor of the curry is ok and spicy but not aroma at all.
P1020529
The Deep Fried Wantan, nothing special about it.
P1020530
As said earlier, all snacks and meals they offer are meant to target the students market. So the quality of food is a bit off. However, students and patrons can always look forward at their dessert/tong sui.

Hong Lim Teow Cheow Porridge Restaurant @ SS2, Petaling Jaya

Thursday, February 19, 2009

P1020513
In Malaysia, Teow Cheow Porridge and economic rice stalls are extremely popular. A mind-boggling spread of stir-fried, stewed, deep-fried, and steamed dishes, economic rice or a bowl of Teow Cheow porridge has an everlasting appeal because it's quick, it's affordable, there's variety (on average, there are 20 twenty dishes to choose from!), and it's as close to Mom's cooking as you can get. There are stalls like this everywhere.
P1020514
As for this particular restaurant, a new owner (a bunch of ladies) just took over from the previous management/owner early this year. It is believe that the previous management didn’t do a good job in the cleanliness department (BIG MAYBE…click HERE to view the post about them...). The dishes are cooked and laid out in clear display. Patrons can pick 2 to 4 dishes to go with rice or porridge, and the final price depends on what dishes you choose. Vegetable dishes are the cheapest; going up the scale are chicken and pork, with the most expensive being seafood.
P1020515
Generally the dishes are tasty as the grease and porridge coat your stomach. Both Steam mince pork meat and sweet & sour pork are tangy and for some reason, when you put it together with the porridge, it comes together like magic. Yum......
P1020516
Pork Intestine is also ok and the gravy is good with rice and porridge.
P1020517
As for the pan fried eggs, just normal…………

Decanter @ Section 17, Petaling Jaya

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

P1020473
Decanter PJ is located in Section 17 at a very secluded location. Patrons that not familiar with Section 17 may have difficulty in finding it. First impressive of the restaurant is the theme of the restaurant, they used a lot of orange color on the décor, seats and even their menu. The ambiance is homey and comfy. A large lounge area features a long bar. Decanter hopes it will become a destination for people to hang out, have a drink and enjoy their meals.
P1020481
Looking at their menu, patrons can choose cuisine from local delights to westernize dishes and many more. Not forgetting the Chinese delicacy which brings out the traditional and robust flavor to their respective customers. Compliment your food with our house specially beverages and scrumptious homemade desserts.

First stop, the drinks….Ice Blended Chocolate with Cream, Soya Bean, Ice Lemon Tea and Lime Juice…
1
The Deep Fried Squid, the chef used the tentacles instead of using the whole thing…result, crispy and chewy…Tasty..
P1020489
Next, the Chicken Mushroom Pie, top with a layer of crispy crust, fill with braised chicken fillet in gravy with sliced mushroom and mix vegetable… (oklar)…
2
Their signature dish, the Hainanese Chicken Chop, deep fried breaded boneless thigh and served with homemade Hainanese sauce and French fries. The sauce is a bit weird in taste; still overall the dish is quite nice.
P1020492
The Cheese Chicken Chop, grill boneless thigh top with cheese & ham and served with roast gravy, with baked potato and vegetables….its a good combination and tangy…yum..
P1020497
Beef Lasagna, taste wise is very nice and tangy. However, the portion is way too small, may not enough to feed a kid.
P1020498
Grill Beef Tenderloin, served with vegetables and baked potato. The meat is tender and juicy.
P1020501
The Homemade Cherry Pie, fresh pastry is used top-and-bottom, making a double-crust pie, filled with fresh cherry and surround it with sweet cherry sauce….taste great..
P1020512
Basically, Decanter offers meals that are affordable and a great place to hangout with friends. Certainly the right choice to savor your appetite in equally impressive surroundings.

The Chicken Rice Shop @ Giant Hypermarket, Kelana Jaya, Petaling Jaya

Monday, February 16, 2009

P1020557
The Chicken Rice Shop (TCRS) is a chicken rice fast-food restaurant and Halal family restaurant chain in Malaysia. The chain is operated by TCRS Restaurants Sdn Bhd, a company incorporated in Malaysia, which was established in June 2000.

The Chicken Rice Shop serves what it calls their "grandmother's traditional Hainanese secret recipe chicken rice" and they also serves local Malaysian dishes.
P1020561
With the successful growth of TCRS in their domestic markets, they plan to spread the culture of the Malaysian way of life into the Indonesia market 2007, followed by Australia, Singapore and other Asian countries. Their slogan is “Bukan Sekadar Nasi Ayam” - (Not just Chicken Rice) in Malay and "Chicken Rice and More" in English.

If you visit their official website, they offer value meal sets, Ala Carte menu and many more. For the start, the Steam Chicken, texture wise is firm and tender but a bit bland.
P1020564
Next, the TCRS Honey BBQ Chicken, it tastes very sweet and not that chewy (they should roast abit longer)…
P1020567
The Steam Tofu with Oyster Sauce, is a nice dish and quite delicious.
P1020571
Ipoh Bean Sprouts, it’s just a very normal dish, nothing to complain.
P1020572
Pai Tee, it’s like those popiah fillings, topped with shreded cucumbers and vegetables. The outer "shell" is crispy and the popiah filling is really nice but not the best.
P1020574
Lastly, the Golden Fortune Rolls, quite hot and crispy....so so saja..
