This is basically a Mexican/Texas food restaurant and It’s opened somewhere around mid last year and run by a friendly American, Larry H. Martin who used to run the hotdog stand at Hartamas Square. Frontera – which means border in Spanish, Frontera Bar & Grill, takes patrons as close as possible to life on the desert ranch and south of the border eating, where ribs, steaks and corn are cooked over a flame built with mesquite wood imported from the US.

The interior of Frontera Bar & Grill has a distinct Mexican theme with pictures of people from Latin American descent. Talk about the service, Larry H. Martin, the owner, goes table to table, socialize with the patrons, chat with them about anything and almost everything - from the menu, food, the "ways" of Malaysians and right down to American politics. Making patrons feel comfortable and cozy with the restaurant environment.

First stop, the Chips and Salsa, a basket of warm tortilla chips accompanied with their homemade salsa. It’s a fun snack and patrons will enjoy scooping up the salsa with the nachos, while waiting for main courses.
P1020780
Taquitos de Pollo, an interesting snack. Use shredded chicken and hand wrapped in corn tortillas then flash-fried. Delicious, and this serves with salsa verde and sour cream. The dip is good with the crispy rolls.
P1020785
One thing for sure, the owner treat his margarita seriously and he recommended to all patrons to try it. Especially his Famous Frontera’s Famous Agave Margarita, perfection in a glass, made with sauza gold, agave nectar and freshly squeezed lime. It doesn't really hit you until after a while.
P1020784
Cajun Fish & Chips, it’s a southern fried dory fish, dusted with corn meal and served with jalapeno remoulade, seasoned fries and jalapeno coleslaw. Coleslaw is nice and spicy (must better than Station Kopitiam…hahaha). The fish is crispy and good with the jalapeno sauce.
P1020793
The Frontera Burger, their delicious juicy 1/3 lb, Mesquite-grilled 100% beef burger served with a choice of tomato salsa, BBQ sauce or Heinz tomato ketchup and lettuce, tomato, dill pickle and onion on a toasted bun….MMMmmmmmMMM…
P1020798
By topping Cheddar Cheese and Chili Con Carne on The Frontera Burger, it enhance the already delicious juicy 1/3 lb, Mesquite-grilled 100% beef burger. Also served with a choice of tomato salsa, BBQ sauce or Heinz tomato ketchup and lettuce, tomato, dill pickle and onion on a toasted bun…..YUM
P1020795
Next, Frontera’s Famous BBQ Beef Ribs, slow roasted Mesquite-smoked beef ribs basted with their homemade Habanero BBQ sauce, served with mashed potatoes and sautéed vegetables or jalapeno coleslaw…the beef is tender and aroma and every bite is sweet and juicy.
P1020799
Chicken Ranch Sandwich, tender fried chicken breast on a toast bun served with lettuce tomato and homemade honey mustard dressing. It maintains the Tex-Mex influence from the flavored fries and the chicken is juicy and delicious.
P1020801
The owner also strongly recommended the Beef Enchiladas; the chef uses border-style enchiladas with slow roasted beef topped with New Mexico red chili sauce and cheese. It's made with New Mexico Red chili sauce and topped with cheese. The beef is specially ordered with just the right amount of lean meat and it's so tender it almost melts in the mouth. The chili used in the dish had to be imported in as well and quite spicy too.

Overall, food is great and a very warm reception by the owner. Worth coming back for more Chili Con Carne Burger……delicious….

i love the chicken ranch sandwich. I usually hate chicken breast as the meat is dry BUT at Frontera, they're able to make it tender & juicy as if your eating a fillet. No joke, its a MUST try if you ever stop by at Frontera.

i think i saw tocas in the menu. love the chips and salsa... i used to buy doritos and a jar of salsa/avocado sauce and eat them while watching a movie at home. it is yum yum. i had the fish and chips. didn't like it. the fish was a bit soggy. the sauce for the fish is good though.

Been there before. It was only so-so experience in terms of food taste but service was good.

Went there for novelty but came out dissapointed. Had the Chimichanga and Enchiladas. The sides that came with it was dissapointing.

The olive green paste thingy tasted like boiled green beans that was mashed and seasoned with only salt. Even the rice was found wanting. Soggy slightly spicy rice.

The only saving grace was the main itself but i guess the sides that came with it totally turn me off and ruin the experience.

If i were to go there again, i'll skip the sides that came with it and request for fries as side instead.

Love letter to anoncoward:
From the way you described things, I think you should stay away from Frontera, and stick to mamaks. I found the food great, if not astounding. You say "If I were to go there again...". Don't go there. I go there a lot, and the food is simply brilliant. I've never been to Mexico, but I can safely say that from what how the manager talks passionately about the food, its bloody authentic.

Head over to the Frontera, and decide for yourselves. I'm sure you'll love it.

Gentleman, we would like to keep this blog as clean as possible. I know there's a freedom of speech but we do not wish to condone explicit or vulgar comments.

To Coconut Pete - Im sure your displeased with anoncoward & his comments here or anywhere. We`ll let the food do the talking =).

Quote from Coconut Pete
"By the way anoncoward, on
October 24, 2008 12:55 PM, 6 months ago, you've typed the exact same slanderous message about Frontera at http://www.sixthseal.com/2008/10/frontera-bar-grill-jaya-one.html. I read blogs a lot, so I had to bring that up.

Seriously man, are you the owner of one of Frontera's competitors? No one would through such lengths to deride a restaurant's name. Either youre one of the people who want to make Frontera lose business"

Michael aka AhSi March 27, 2009 at 11:54 PM

Fully agreed with Mart. For me, the food at Frontera is good and I'm sure to visit again quite soon...cheers

Sounds so spicy (Beef Enchiladas).. thot I eat chili padi, quite doubtful I can take this..if you rate 1 to 5, 1 not spicy and 5 very spicy, how do you rate it? My friend told me that the chili they are using not from local
