Sunrise Restaurant @ S.E.A Park, Petaling Jaya

Other than Loong Foong’s Roast Duck, there is another popular Roast Duck joint just a few blocks away. For the most succulent roast duck in Klang Valley, you wouldn’t go wrong if you head to Sunrise Restaurant in Sea Park, Petaling Jaya. First of all, the decor and layout is just another typical Malaysian coffee shop style with standard foldaway tables and plastic chairs (70s Style). Well, at least you don’t have to pay for the ambiance and you most definitely, are not there to snack on their furniture. But, one thing is for certain, they serve the best roast duck in Klang Valley, properly the best in Malaysia…..

Owner and operator – Mr. Lawrence Lee has been roasting ducks for over twenty years already. With fans from all over the country to places as far flung as Japan, the secret behind Lawrence’s famed roast duck lies in its preparation. The secret to the succulent roast duck is most probably in its meticulous preparation and charcoal roasting method. More than 2 decades of specializing in roast duck has also contributed to the almost perfect recipe for their only signature dish.

The signature of Sunrise roast duck is the succulent meat (tender and juicy) and its super crispy skin (tasty & appetizing, yet not too much fat). Since the restaurant is a famous foodie destination, and the clientele is ever so supportive; the rows of succulent and piping hot roast ducks coming out from the charcoal oven has never had to hang for more than 20 minutes on the glass display cabinet before they are snatched and skillfully cut-up with such surgical precision!

Old Town Kopitiam @ Desa Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur

Saturday, September 12, 2009

Ya ya ya….another post about Old Town Kopitiam. But this is not another “ABOUT OLD TOWN”; it’s more like emphasizing their services in this outlet. Although they have over 100 outlets around Malaysia (to be exact, 133 todate), they should have some sort of service quality control… etc: provide customer helpline/complain department for patrons to voice their displease.

This particular experience was not fun at all; especially they spoil a very beautiful Sunday morning to a group of patrons. You know, morning is a good time to enjoy good breakfast and a cup of nice white coffee.

The situation was like this, each patrons making their respective orders. After 15 minutes, part of the drinks arrived…… wait for another 10 minutes; the rest received the remaining drinks and some also received their respective breakfasts. But it’s no excuse to take 25 minutes to serve the drinks only.

Still, there was a couple of orders hasn’t come yet (Kaya & Butter Toast and Garlic Butter Bread). So patrons patiently waiting for it……………………………………………………… and waited, and waited, and waited…for about 20 minutes! Still nothing! Then, questioning the waiter, patrons found them quite clueless at first. Come back (checking with their manager and their computer) and forth (and ask patrons that they have served the dishes). Common, we are the victim here! Don’t put the blame to patrons if your workers gave the wrong dishes to other table. Furthermore, they have hired foreign workers which are hard for patrons to communicate. They smile and nod their heads, but most of the time misunderstands patrons’ question. Aiyo!

In the end, it took patrons another 10 minutes or so to cancel the orders and the manager came over to ask if there is anything to assist. Too late man! Quite upset and asked for the bill and cabut (leave) with bitter taste experience. Maybe it’s too early(came around 8am+) for them, they are still sleepy and blur. Suggestion here is that they should start their business hour at 10am to avoid blurriness. END!

Coconut House Restaurant @ 3 Two Square, Petaling Jaya

Thursday, September 10, 2009

P1010242
In recent months, Coconut House has moved to PJ from Jalan Pudu. They are quite well known back in Jalan Pudu. Yes, the same restaurant that located at the row of old shophouses near Maybank Tower, it probably serves one of the best thin crust pizzas in town. It's really a hidden gem because this is not a place that most people would think of when they think of Italian food. Coconut House even has an authentic dome oven like Italian pizza places in which they cook the pizza, so as in this new place at 3 Two Square.
P1010255
The place is quite cozy and homey feeling. Firstly, the Roasted Mushroom with Herbs. This dish is oven roasted with herbs then tops with parmesan. The dish is quite below average only. The dish is very dry and only crunchy for the first few minutes then it’ll become soft. Not a recommended dish.
P1010256
Next, Penne with Cream Sauce. Cook with Rosemary, Bay Leave, Red Onion, Italian Parsley and Cream garnish with Parmesan. The pasta is good but still believes there’s room for improvement.
P1010259
Then the Pork Chop with Gorgonzola. The pork chop is well grilled tops with sauce with Gorgonzola (a type of cheese) & white wine and serves with green salad & baked potatoes.
P1010263
As said earlier that they are quite famous for their pizza. So will be back for another round. Shall keep you all posted.

Furthermore, their service is slow and it takes a while for the food and even drinks to arrive.
