Monday, July 6, 2009

This is the second review about Pasta Zanmai and the first review was about 10 months ago. See whether their food is still at par or not…..hehhehehe….

No need much intro about this restaurant, let’s go straight to the food review.

For the drink, the Fruits Tea, contains various fruits cubes like apple, kiwi, orange and etc. the drink is refreshing and so so lar…

During this month, they are promoting a special July menu for a reasonable price, you can try 2 dishes. Just like these 2 dishes below; Mini Teriyaki Chicken Pasta and Mini Hotate Pizza. Pasta is tasty & chicken is good. The pizza is also alright with scallop on top and tonnes of mayonnaise. Although the price is reasonable, but the dishes are toooooooooo small for a normal adult.
P1010146
P1010143
Then the Seafood Pasta with Cream Sauce. The seafood pasta is tasty and portion wise is average. They provide a generous amount of fresh prawns and squids….yum yum
P1010133
Subsequently, the Bolognese Beef Burger Pasta. The beef burger is very scrumptious, it perfectly blend well with the Bolognese pasta. So tasty so good……
P1010139
After that…………………………….
……………………………..….…….
………………………………..
………………………….
10 minutes later, still waiting for the next orderP1010147
……………………..
…………………
……………..
………….
30 minutes later, still waiting for the food. Wondering where’s the food??!?!?! Make known to the waiter, the waiter was confused and puzzled. He checked the order, was complaining to his supervisor that the orders should have come out already and he was not in fault. Only then, patrons realized that they are quite understaffed as many dirty dishes laying all around the restaurant, some on table, some on the kitchen area and etc. It’s an eye sore! This sort of attitude is not acceptable to patrons or anyone. If the business is so good, please get more staff!
P1010154
P1010155
Oh ya, back to the food waiting, it took almost 40 minutes to serve the next dish… Goma Gyu Shabu Pasta, the goma (sesame sauce) versions were very popular with patrons. The beef slices mixed with creamy sesame sauce. Very nice! Definitely the best pasta.
P1010149
The Goma Soft Shell Crab, it’s also very nice. Crabs is crispy and tangy…..Mmmmmm…yummy
P1010150
Then…………………………………
…………………………………..
…………………………..
Wait for another 10 minutes, just to serve this Vegetable Miso Soup. How hard to make this soup? Hhaaiii………..so disappointed….
P1010152
As for dessert, the Chocolate Banana Parfait. Using chopped bananas and yummy chocolate ice cream. They also added cornflakes for extra crunch.
P1010158
Then came the free Itachoco Monaka as the token of their apologies for their “misplaced” orders. A biscuit with ice cream and chocolate. Yummy!

Unique Seafood Restaurant @ Section 13, Petaling Jaya

Sunday, July 5, 2009

Patrons that tired to venture out of town for seafood but still, looking for freshwater prawns or that steamed patin cooked with superior soya sauce, do try the Unique Seafood in PJ. Their main décor/theme is by installing at about one hundred fish tanks filled with all sort of live fish from abalone, crabs to garoupa. Unique Seafood sits quietly at Section 13. The restaurant is divided into two separate 'operations'. The live seafood section and the kitchen. That's why you will be getting two bills at the end. One for the seafood and the other for the cooking. Now, in the live seafood section, depending on how thick your wallet is and how much thinner you want it to be at the end, choose from the selection of fresh fish, shellfish, prawns, crabs, lobsters and snails too.

For this post, it’s about their Dinner set. First of all, the Four Happiness & Cold Combination. The marinated squids was tasty, then the deep fried meat was so so saja, and then the celery fried with scallops was tangy and lastly the minced fish paste was awful and smell quite bad. Managed to complained to the captain and they gladly replace it with oyster wrapped with fresh minced fish paste. It’s delicious and a nice bounces back.
P1000859
P1000873
The Braised Shark’s Fin Soup with Dried Scallop & Dried Seafood. The soup is fantastic. Taste great and many patrons will surely love it.
P1000862
As said earlier, here, you are able to get fresh fish especially this Steamed Sea Grouper in Cantonese Style. Freshly caught from the fish tank, and within minutes, the chef immediately steam with superior soya sauce. No doubt, this is a very very delicious dish.
P1000875
Then the Crispy Fried Chicken with Garlic Flavor. Chicken is tender and scrumptious….yum yum
P1000863
Of course, you must try the fresh tiger prawns. In order to taste the freshness of this prawn, the chef doesn’t need to do must. They just boiled it with water and serve. Nice!
P1000876
The Stewed Fish Maw with Mushroom, Broccoli & Pacific Clam. Nicely done!
P1000877
The Seafood Noodle, the chef used fresh prawns, squid and fish meat to fry this dish. It’s very appetizing.
P1000878
Then end with a nice bowl of dessert, the sweetened Soya Bean with Glutinous Rice Ball….MMmmmmMMmmmmmmmmmmmm

Food & Tea Restaurant @ Tropicana City Mall, Petaling Jaya

Thursday, July 2, 2009

Most Char chan teng in Malaysia is a type of Chinese tea restaurant known for its eclectic and affordable menus which include many dishes from Hong Kong cuisines. Hong Kong themed restaurants are pretty much nowadays. From “Char Chan Teng” to “Kei Tak Sek” and there’s even a coffee shop called “Wan Chai”. This type of restaurant is quite popular here.
P1000805
For this post, it is another HK Theme restaurant, Food & Tea Restaurant. Their first restaurant was opened on July 2004 in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. To date they have 12 branches in Malaysia and they operate in most of the leading shopping malls across Malaysia. The restaurant has pretty decent setups, the place is nice & comfy, with a bright ambience. But then again.. is just a another typical HK restaurant.

On to the food review, Stuffing Minced Pork in “Wan Chai” Style. With nicely minced pork stuff it into the tau fu skin. It’s taste alright, but nothing to shout about it.
P1000837
Then The Fried Rice with Chicken with X.O. Sauce, using premium XO sauce to fried rice. It has given a hint of spiciness and a rich of aroma. But a little bit too spicy. Maybe the chef put a bit too much of XO sauce. Other than that, the fried rice is quite ok………………………………………………..
P1000843
The Stir-Fried Udon Noodle with Prawn, so far this dish is their specialty and the sauce is taste good. Yum….
P1000839
Next, the Cheese Baked Rice with Chicken Chop, the chef using mozzarella to baked this rice. They claimed they used suitable rice grains, quality cheese and prime fresh meat are all carefully wrapped and baked to golden color with lotus leaf. This dish is great, tangy and long stringy cheese in every bite.

Klang is famous for its authentic Bak Ku Teh. There are over 200 stalls in the area selling various types of Bak Ku Teh, with dry fragrance Bak Ku Teh, seafood Bak Ku Teh, and claypot Bak Ku Teh being the most famous. Jarrod & Rawlins @ Desa Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur

Monday, June 29, 2009

P1000775
According to their website, the origins of this restaurant actually date back to a conversation in 2004 between two friends by the names of Jarrod Chek and Denis Rawlins. Whilst socializing, sharing a drink together one evening, the two began to speculate upon the idea of going into a joint venture business; being as they were already working in what seemed to be complimentary fields. One potential partner was working in the manufacture of meat products, and the other marketing imported fine wines. Food and wine, natural partners, and so shortly after this first speculative conversation, the company of Jarrod & Rawlins purveyors of fine food and wine, was formed and the first outlet in Desa Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur opened for business.
P1000765
In this branch, Jarrod & Rawlins presents several facets to their customers. They serve hearty breakfasts, lunchtime sandwich, other snacks and coffee, a cozy pub with good beer, wines, and pub food, a restaurant to take your dinner in the evening, and of course, not forgetting the delicatessen where one can find a good selection of meat, antipasti and wines.

Let’s start with a basic sandwich, Bacon Sandwich. Fresh grilled Bacon and use freshly baked wheat bread. It’s tangy and bacon is crispy. Yum yum…but it’s a bit salty.
P1000848
P1000849
Then if you craving for some heavy breakfast, do try the J&R Special. It comes with 2 organic eggs with your choice of cooking style, grilled tomatoes, extra sausages, extra bacon, mushrooms, Heinz Baked Bean and wheat bread toast. Also comes with coffee or tea and orange juice. The sausages are very good, sure patrons will enjoy it. The bacon is crispy and mushroom is average. But somehow La Bodega Breakfast set is bit better than them.

P1000771
P1000774
If you can’t finish such a big portion, you can opt for J&R Fried Breakfast; it’s the same thing you are getting from J&R Special but with a single piece of sausage and bacon.
P1000851
Of course, patrons can always go for Ala-carte like ordering food from the cold storage area where they display all types of sausages, pork, bacon and cheeses. Like this dish below, there are grilled spare ribs (cut into pieces), pork & herbs sausages and pig in blanket. It also comes with garden salad. The grilled spare ribs is scrumptious and the sausages are also tangy.
P1000846
P1000853
The J&R’s Eggs Benedict “Indulgence”. It is a dish that consists of a half of an English Muffin, topped with ham or bacon, poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce. Tasty and yummy…..
