Roasted Turkey @ Victoria Station

Turkeys are traditionally eaten as the main course of Christmas feasts in much of the world (stuffed turkey), as well as Thanksgiving in the United States and Canada, though this tradition has its origins in modern times, rather than colonial as is often supposed. Before the 20th century, pork ribs were the most common food on the holiday, as the animals were usually slaughtered in November. Turkeys were once so abundant in the wild that they were eaten throughout the year, the food considered commonplace, whereas pork ribs were rarely available outside of the Thanksgiving-New Year season. It has also displaced, to a certain extent, the traditional Christmas roast goose or beef of the United Kingdom and Europe. While eating turkey was once mainly restricted to special occasions such as these, turkey is now eaten year-round and forms a regular part of many diets

Turkeys are usually baked or roasted in an oven for several hours, often while the cook prepares the remainder of the meal. Here, the Victoria Station’s turkey is brined before roasting to enhance flavor and moisture content. This is necessary because the dark meat requires a higher temperature to denature all of the myoglobin pigment than the white meat (very low in myoglobin), so that fully cooking the dark meat tends to dry out the breast. Brining makes it possible to fully cook the dark meat without drying the breast meat. Turkeys are sometimes decorated with turkey frills prior to serving.

Victoria Station package turkey comes with chickens sausages, parsley potatoes, fresh garden salad, roast sauce, cranberry sauce and French dressing. The turkey is tasty and roasted quite well (roasted in traditional way). Meat is tender and not dry. Overall is good.

Lam Mee Ya @ 1 Utama, Petaling Jaya

Lam Mee……. is long yellow rice noodles cooked in rich gravy made from the stock of prawns and chicken. It is always served at birthdays to wish the birthday boy or girl a long life, and is also known as birthday noodles.

In 1 Utama, opened a restaurant specialize on Lam Mee only. The restaurant called Lam Mee Ya. Its located opposite Kluang Station, and right beside Bread Story. Once you go into the restaurant, you can see the entire menu feature on their wall. One of the walls, showing a picture of original Lam Mee and enlighten patrons that this is what you are getting if you order their Lam Mee.

The picture below is the real deal. Basically, what the picture (above) compare it (below). You are getting the original Lam Mee and more or less the exact portion. As said above, the gravy is the main factor in this dish and it is very nice and tasty. Of course, you can opt for other types of noodles like mee hoon, thin noodle, thick noodle and kuey teow.

Ala-carte lam mee is RM8.80 per bowl (which is a bit expensive compare to others) and they also offer set menu which comes with a soya bean drink and a piece of fried fu chuk and 2 pieces of meat ball. The fried foo cheak is very delicious and meat balls is great.

Next, is the Chicken Kuey Teow Soup. The soup is amazing, they done a pretty good job in making sure the soup is very. Just hope that they maintain their quality in the future.

Bangkok Wasabe @ Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya

Even though economy is bad, it seems that more and more people are venturing into food and beverage industry. Looking at Dataran Sunway, you should see something new (restaurants/cafes) every other week such as this Bangkok Wasabe. They offer lavish Thai gourmet in a cozy and relaxed atmosphere. Every dish is served with exquisite crockery and fine cutlery made with tradition in mind.

Crunchy Thai Spring Rolls, Yummy….. crispy, freshly fried and hot. Best eaten with sweet Thai chili sauce.

Deep Fried Beancurd in Claypot. It is cooked in a Thai style and I find it nothing special to shout over this dish. Pretty normal but tasted alright.

Another vegetable dish is the Stir Fried Baby Kailan with Salted Fish. Also another average dish. But luckily, not very salted.

Next, the Stir Fried Chicken with Cashew Nuts. The chicken is deep fried first then stir fried it together with the cashew nuts. They put some dried chilies, so the overall dish is a bit hot and tasty.

Green Curry Chicken, The portion is pretty generous though - lots of chunks of chicken and vegetables. Just nice for 2 people to share…… the gravy is very delicious and great with white rice. However, it’s a bit too hot for a patron that can’t stand spiciness.

Deep Fried Garoupa topped with Sweet & Sour Sauce. The fish itself is already taste good; the fish is crunchy and succulent. Sauce is also good as they used many pineapple cubes to create the sourness to the dish. Nice!

Here, it is a friendly and humble little restaurant. Overall, they serve a numbers of mouth-watering Thai foods not only to the locals, but also thai food lovers outside Petaling Jaya.

Jun Kee Restaurant @ Taman Midah, Cheras

One nice Chinese Restaurant (or rather small chain restaurant) to recommend in Cheras. Jun Kee Restaurant served a variety of seafood and Chinese cuisine. It is located at Taman Midah. Jun Kee, a restaurant that started humbly as a "tai chow" restaurant that serves up your usual fish, chicken, pork and vegetables dishes and of course the compulsory crabs such as your fried noodles and rice. As they are expanding quite rapidly, so fast that many patrons faced with plenty of consistency problems such as long waiting time and a drop in quality when it is crowded.

Firstly, the “Wa Tan Hor”. The overall taste is good and the chef use the right amount of corn starch and egg mixture and end-result, delicious. And most of all, they give generous amount of seafood like prawns and squids.

Then Stir Fried French Bean with Chinese Mushroom. The mushroom texture is just nice (not hard, luckily). Using much garlic, the dish is quite aroma but not overwhelming.

Another Vegetable dish is the Stir Fried Broccoli with scallops. Scallops is great (tasty) and broccoli is also yummy. Nice!

Freshly Steamed Garoupa, a nice yummy dish without much needed cooking skill here. But the chef did a good job in term of timing which the fish is not overcooked and nice texture.

Yet again, you can’t do wrong with pork trotter here. This is a excellent dish that done perfectly with a slightly sweet and spicy sauce. The skin was beyond crispy and the meat is tender and juicy in the inside. Patrons wouldn’t have no problem tearing out the fingers/toes to lick it all up. Thumbs up…..

Pizza San Francisco Restaurant @ Jalan Pelapik, Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam

Pizza San Francisco is a chain restaurant and they have about 4 branches around Klang Valley as todate. For this post, this restaurant is located in Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam which is the newest one. What's so eye catching about this place is that they have this huge banner that they put up every month. Showing off their offer of the month. Like maybe Fish and Chips for only RM8.90 or etc. As for this month, they are offering Beef Steak at RM12.90 only.

Talking about their steak, they are using local beef. They grilled the beef in Black pepper sauce which is alright. Texture wise is tender but not that great if you compare with Australian Beef. Taste wise is quite average, it’s all about black pepper. It has totally covered the origin taste of the beef.

Next, the Chicken Finger for starter course. Using chicken breast, cover with egg and bread crumbs and then deep fried. It’s crunchy and taste ok with tartar sauce.

Linguini Salmon, tops with cream sauce and herbs. The taste is good but not that great yet. Portion wise is small. And salmon is not that fresh.

Carbonara, spaghetti tops with cream sauce comes with mushrooms, olives and chicken salami. The dish is about the same as the above Linguini Salmon. Nothing to comment further.

Overall, here they serve vast variety of steaks to pizza to pasta. For patrons that looking for some affordable western Italian food, then you should come and try it. That’s all.

Tomorrow is my hubby's cousin sister's birthday & she requested my mother-in-law to make yam layer cake, which I assisted to make this delicious cake. Still remember the first time when I tried yam layer cake, it was during my high school year when my teacher made it for me. I totally fall in love ever since I first tried it. Everytime I make this delicious cake, it brings back sweet memories. Too bad my dear hubby do not know to appreciate this cake, but... I do believe many people will like this cake. =D

Have you guys ever tried cranberry cheesecake before? Have you tried similar something like mine? Cranberry cheesecake is a very appetizing dessert. Once you take the first bite, you would want more and more. Hrm.... Yummy Yummy =D



What makes cranberry so special is, it helps to prevent kidney stones, cancer and cardiovascular disease. My version of cranberry cheesecake is made from a mixture of cranberry & cheese, while the bottom crust is made from digestive biscuits.

Extra Super Tanker Restaurant @ Damansara Kim, Petaling Jaya

Started since 2004, for a restaurant that is located in the suburbs, you’ll be surprised to see how crowded on week nights. Extra Super Tanker Restaurant is well known for its authenticate Seafood dishes and Chinese cuisine. Besides that, it has spacious car park field and dining hall. The restaurant can fit a capacity of 250 pax with 3 private rooms.

The head of chef, who is also the owner of the restaurant (it is believed that the owner was the head chef to Overseas Restaurant and then when he got enough money, he resigned and opened this restaurant), always ensures that the food is prepared in its best.

As many patrons would know, Overseas Restaurant was quite famous for its Siew Mei, especially Char Siew. And of course, one of the must try dish here is the Char Siew. Char Siew is well roasted with Honey glaze and not much of fats. Overall it is a tasty dish.

Then the Homemade Tofu (Fried) tops with stir-fried minced pork with chili and dried prawn. The minced pork is great, and blends quite well with tofu. Excellent!

Stir-Fried Kai Lan with fried dried prawns, onions and garlic on top. The Kai Lan is nice but its abit too dry to swallow.

Next, the sweet and sour chicken with dried squids. The chicken is deep fried before marinated with spices and fermented tofu. It’s very good actually. The combination of the sweetness and sourness give this chicken a bit of edge in taste.

Steamed Giant Garoupa Fish, the fish itself is already fresh. With a simple use of soya sauce then steamed and pours some boiled oil, this fish is delicious.

Nevertheless, if you are looking for something new and fresh with reasonable price (if you compare with Overseas Restaurant, Tai Thong and etc), you should go try Extra Super Tanker Restaurant at Damansara Kim and another branch at The Club, Bandar Utama. By the way, this post is to dedicate to a couple that are going to marry this weekend. Cheers and congratulations.
