Bagus La Mian. Yong Tau Fu is a small chain restaurant in Singapore and just opened a branch in Dataran 32 PJ not long ago. Maybe about 1-2 months ago. Ambiance wise, the décor is quite pleasant, warm, giving patrons a nice place to enjoy their meals.

So what so interesting about this restaurant? Basically, they serve Yong Tau Fu in 7 styles. First, patrons have to choose minimum of 4 pieces of Yong Tau Fu from the display case. Then patrons will inform their staff their choice of Yong Tau Fu and noodle (La Mian, Bee Hoon, Kuey Teow) or rice.
- Yong Tau Fu (Dry) – deep fried and serve with homemade chili & sweet sauce
- Yong Tau Fu (Soup) – serve with healthy anchovy and soya bean soup
- Ampang Style Yong Tau Fu – comes with appetizing sour, spicy & sweet gravy
- Dark Sauce Yong Tau Fu – dish up on fragrant dark sauce flavor
- Hakka Style Yong Tau Fu – chef uses his own special in-house mild herbal & Spicy gravy
- Laksa Yong Tau Fu – serve the traditional spicy Nanyang laksa gravy
- Tom Yum Yong Tau Fu – Tasty Hot & Spicy Thai Style soup

The picture below illustrates the Hakka Style Yong Tau Fu La Mian. La Mian is rather chewy and smooth (you could taste it that it is freshly made). The texture is good. The Hakka Style garvy is quite ok, not to salty and not too bland. The gravy is made out of many ingredients including their in-house herbs and best yet, the gravy is not very oily.

Killiney Kopitiam @ Jaya One, Petaling Jaya

Thursday, November 27, 2008

Killiney Kopitiam is a Singaporean Kopitiam chain which was originally founded in 1919. The Killiney chain is one of Singapore's best-kept secrets and hugely popular there, originating from a single lowly coffee shop. Its famous bread toast and warm beverages was popular among many people. About 4-5 years ago, they started branching out in Malaysia, providing the best Killiney has to offer; their superb home-made kaya, smooth bread and French toast.
This particular branch in Jaya One provides good food and service (however, their waiters are not good in communicating in English, giving a bit difficult time to order food). The interior is quite normal, just like a very clean coffee-shop concept, complete with wood panels.

The other dishes like curry chicken rice, chicken chop rice or with chips (ok, pass), Fried Tong Hoon (Tasty!) and nasi lemak are also available, but judging from their menu, it's obvious the main focus is on the kopitiam breakfast fare.

Like wise, if you like to find a kopitiam with good coffee and bread toast, this place might be worth a try.
