P1020331
The recently-opened Jaya Palace Restaurant in Sect.51A is located right in the middle of industrial and office buildings. Basically, the restaurant is just along the Federal Highway and patrons can easily spot the restaurant just a few blocks away from Menara Axis. Menara LYL where it is located is not fully tenanted and it's not hard to miss the restaurant on the Ground Floor.
P1020332
The décor is modern with a touch of Oriental splendor. The restaurant has a nice environment and tables are spaced out at a nice distance. They use timber as the main theme as panel walls give the place a very warm contemporary appearance and the pillars are covered with wooden shelves that displayed Chinese teapots and vases.
P1020325
In conjunction of Chinese New Year, Jaya Palace has devised a set menu specially for CNY.

Dish 1: Salmon “Lou Yee Sang”, Well, it is a sort of a Chinese-style raw fish salad. It consists of raw fish (usually salmon), plus shredded vegetables, crackers and sweet sauce & oil. Yee sang sounds a bit like Yúshēng (余升) meaning an increase in abundance, so yee sang is a symbol of prosperity. The presentation is nice by using a wooden plate and taste wise is nice.
P1020337
Dish 2: Shark Fin Soup, is a delicacy that has been a popular item of Chinese cuisine since the Ming Dynasty, usually served at special occasions such as weddings and banquets. As a luxury item, the dish is also considered a symbol of wealth and prestige in Chinese culture. So, the soup is great and the shark fin is very meaty and chewy.
P1020353
P1020354
Dish 3: Roast Piglet (Half) and Thai-Style Chicken Salad, the piglet is nicely done and meats are tender and crunchy & crispy….yum yum. As for the Thai-Style Chicken Salad, it’s a refreshing dish and a very nice combination.
P1020342
Dish 4: Deep Fried Prawns with Oyster Sauce, a dish that is just so so only, furthermore it’s a bit dry and the sauce didn’t taste quite well.
P1020361
Dish 5: Cod Fish steams with salted vegetable, thumbs up for the fish because it’s very fresh & tender and by using salted vegetable, it helps to enhance the freshness of the fish….excellent…
P1020359
Dish 6: Vegetable (sautéed together with oysters, mushroom, bitter gourd wrapped around scallop, kai lan and “Fat Choy”. The dish is tangy and the chef done a good job in the creativity department.
P1020363
Dish 7: Glutinous rice with wax meat, is a type of short-grained Asian rice that is especially sticky when cooked. It is called glutinous in the sense of being glue-like or sticky and not in the sense of containing gluten. It is simply delicious. The rice is very aroma and wax meat is flavorful……tasty…
P1020373
Dish 8: Sea Coconut with Longan, tastes like ice-lemon tea. Nice and refreshing.
P1020381
Dish 9: Nian Gao covered with Coconut and Deep Fried Sesame Ball, Nian gao a.k.a Rice cake, or Chinese New Year’s cake is a food prepared from glutinous rice and consumed during CNY. It is considered good luck to eat nian gao during this time because "nian gao" is a homonym for "every year higher and higher. So both “dim sums” are good & tangy and very much no complain at all…
P1020380
Mainly food is great, however, due to the fact that it is a CNY dinner, they were short of staff and also overcrowded.

After a long shopping day in 1Utama, and if you are craving for some nice Chinese dishes, why not try out this restaurant which located at ground floor, new wing of 1 Utama (same row with HSBC Amanah). The ambiance of this restaurant quite resembles some longstanding kopitiams, inclusion of some modernized outlook plus characteristics of Far East décor.
P1020408
First stop, the 8 Treasure Fried Rice, In Chinese tradition, eight is a lucky number. It’s represented here by the delicious “treasures” that comprise the dish: eggs, shrimp, shiitake mushrooms, edamame, sausage or ham, pineapple, cashews and cilantro. It’s very nice and tasty.
P1020409
As for the Cantonese Fried Kuey Teow, patrons will love eating Cantonese style kuew teow especially with lots of eggy gravy. Overall, the sauce is good and flavor is just right.

Valentine's Special: Restaurant Windmill @ Subang Jaya SS12

Saturday, February 14, 2009

My first article and to coincide with Valentine's Day. How nice~! LOL. I don't know much bout the history of Restaurant Windmill, all i know is, they serve good Fine Quality Western Cuisine. Isn't that the most important info ?. Anyway, the last time i was at Windmill was wayback then with my family, like 7-8 years ago. Since its Valentine's Day, they dont serve the usual menu today, only the Valentine's Set which is a 5-course meal.

First up, the appetizer - "Cupid's Prawns & Honeydew Cocktail". Im not a fan of salad's but this one was exceptional cause it looked "cute" and to my surprise its delicious as well.

Next up, the soup - "Juliet's Sharkfin & Crabmeat Soup". Before seeing the soup, all the time i was thinking it was the typical Chinese style sharkfin soup ( I forgotten i was in a Western restaurant LOL ). When it was served, it seems to look like some cream of mushroom with sharkfin strips & crab meat. Again, I was surprised how well it taste with such fusion. Kudos

Next up, the main course - I had the "Oven-baked Tiger Prawns with Honey Baked Spring Chicken" and Vivian had the "Charboiled tenderloin Steak with Shitake Mushroom Sauce". Unfortunately, we both ate halfway through before we remembered we havent take the photos. LOL. Both dishes is simply delicious ( i do have a shot of the steak below...=P )

Next up, the dessert - "Love & Berry". Its a single scoop ice cream with strawberry sauce, topped with fresh strawberries. To sum it up, simple & nice.

For the finale, beverage - "Romeo's Cappucicino". A nice cuppa of Cappucino to end the 5 course meal.

All this for an exceptional price of Rm69.90++ per pax and a wonderful evening dinner. Wait there's more, we were given something for FREE as well...

Kong Chow House Restaurant @ Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya

Thursday, February 12, 2009

P1020464
Kong Chow House is located in Dataran Sunway and the name itself says it all, they are specializing in Cantonese Cuisine. However, their menu does consist of other cuisines such as Hakka, Hokkien and etc. But the selling point of this restaurant is their set lunch offer.
P1020465
Cheap, decent “tai chow” in an air-conditioned place is hard to come by nowadays. Imagine for just RM7.90 (there is 5% service charge), you can get a drink, a bowl of soup and a main course all to choose from their menu.

The orange juice is freshly squeezed……
P1020468
The Soup is ok….
P1020469
As for the main course, here come the three types of roast meats with rice. The “Char Siew” a.k.a BBQ pork is coated with a glistening, sweet-tart and tangy sauce, roast duck is chunky & tender and roast chicken is dry but pleasantly surprised at its wonderful flavor.

P1020404
According to their website, The Melium Group introduced DOME Café to Malaysians in 1995. To date DOME Café Malaysia has managed to perpetuate the fine lineage to a total of 18 DOME Cafes, 14 in Klang Valley and 3 in Penang and 1 in Sabah, making it the focal point that provides a convenient all-day one-stop café experience.

Dome’s philosophy stems from the basic values of modern day living, the concept which gives its home-away-from-home principle. At Dome café, patrons can drop by for comfort, coffee and conversation, a place for communities to meet, hang out, or simply carry on living outside of the home and the workplace. Its décor design of chestnut and oak wood environment provides a cozy, elegant ambiance for a great diversity of lifestyles – a business lunch, a relaxing afternoon or evening coffee respite, or even a family dinner.
P1020391
Looking at their menu, they provide all-day breakfast, soups and salads, gourmet sandwiches, hot kitchen specials and desserts.
P1020384
First stop, patrons can enjoy their “teas & chai” ranging from traditions teas, relaxing herbs drinks, smooth fresh fruits drinks, espreski and many more….
P1020390
By now, most patrons should know that their Gourmet Chicken & Mushroom Pie is one of their famous dishes in town. Homestyle chicken and mushroom filling, in a porcelain bowl, tops with golden pastry cap, serves with sautéed vegetables. It’s a delicious dish for patrons that want to enjoy a light meal.
P1020394
P1020397
Next, the BIG Breakfast, comes with two eggs of your choice (sunny side, poached or scrambled) with mushrooms, chipolatas, harsh brown, tomato and toast, serves with a choice of grilled beef rasher or chicken ham….it’s not that bad nor good….ok oklar…
P1020401
Patrons can choose the basic breakfast meal whic is the sausages & eggs on toast. Nothing special about the dish, sausages is quite dry and unappetizing.
P1020957
The Spicy Olio Pasta, the spaghetti is tossed with fresh herbs, garlic, chili flakes, red capsicum, spinach, parsley and zucchini. With a choice of beef bacon bits and sliced chicken ham. The dish is tangy and for patrons who can't take spicy food, it's not that spicy.
P1020959
Lastly, the Pancake Stack, consists of a stack of fluffy, thick pancakes served with berries, golden syrup and mascarpone cheese. It's nice and appealing to kids.
