A Little Dim Sum Place Restaurant @ SS2, Petaling Jaya

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

Who hasn't spent a lazy afternoon in their favorite Chinese restaurant, sipping tea and feasting on the innumerable assortment of delicacies that make up Chinese dim sum? Literally meaning "to touch your heart," dim sum consists of a variety of dumplings, steamed dishes and other goodies. They are similar to hors d'oeuvres, the hot and cold delicacies served at French restaurants.

What types of foods are served at a typical dim sum meal? Many of the dishes are either steamed or deep-fried. Among the former, you'll find everything from steamed pork spareribs and char siu bao - steamed buns with roast pork - to har gao, those wonderful shrimp dumplings with the translucent skin. Beside, deep-fried treats include mini spring rolls and Wu Gok, a type of taro turnover. Not to mention whatever other culinary creations the chef may come up with. At one dim sum meal, patrons can treated to delicious shrimp dumplings wrapped in seaweed and topped with a dollop of salmon caviar. So in SS2, you can find this Little Dim Sum Place, located with the same row as KTZ Dessert and behing Ee Yan Sang. Prices are slightly higher as compared to the normal dim sum coffeeshops as the ambiance is better and the place is cleaner and this place is air conditioned.

This is the signature dish, Bacon Roll. Inside the bacon roll is fish paste then deep fried and mayonnaise on top, giving a fusion taste.

And next, the Siew Mai, it’s juicy and taste fine. No complain here….

Their Har Gao is taste fine with the translucent skin.

Then the steam fish ball, well minced and taste is alright and normal.

Steam Spareribs, the gravy is yummy actually and meat is fresh and juicy too. The chef uses black bean sauce to gives sweetness to the gravy.

The Chee Cheong Fun (Prawn), rice noodle sheets are filled with shrimp, the shrimp is fresh and the sauce is good too.

Basically, this is a nice place, very good for gathering or chit chatting. The dim sum here are ok, normal quality but just pricey, so watch what you order.
