Bayu Timor Restaurant & Café @ Taman Megah PJ
Sunday, November 9, 2008
Bayu Timor is a quaint and cozy cafe that incorporates Asian décor in its interior. It's really a nice ambiance to dine in as Bayu Timor is a furniture shop cum cafe. All the furniture displayed are for sale including the tables and chairs that customers actually sitting on it. The menu features a range of Western, Vietnamese, Indonesian and Malaysian delicacies. Interesting selections are available for appetizers, soups, salads, main courses and desserts.
Food wise, their fruit rojak is nice and comes with crispy yau char kway and tau foo pok. Their Gado Gado is one of the renowned Indonesian dish and blend well together with their homemade spicy peanut sauce (their Indonesian Fried Rice is normal and Vietnamese Beef Noodle is oklar, not the best in town).
Others like western food (eg. Oxtail Soup (don't try, bad!), Chicken chop (normal lar), Chicken Maryland (normal lar), Lasagna (normal lar), fish n chips, pies)/nyonya kuih/Nasi Lemak (Should try)/cakes are also recommended.
One should take note that they have created an interesting combination with ice blended with the teh tarik = Ice Blended Teh Tarik which is refreshing (Oh, their ABC Ice Cendol is also ok).
This is a place definitely not to be missed, with great food and comfy ambiance. Venture to Taman Megah (near to the Ming Tien badminton court) and visit Bayu Timor when you're at PJ.

**Editor's Note (Mart) : Our good bro has missed out one very important rating "CLEANLINESS". I dont mind eating places which are dirty but they're some extent. Bayu Timur is a clean place, I really mean its clean, but with several pesky neighbours. On the first table that we sat, I found a small cockroach; fine; I just swept it away. I was browsing through menu but found nothing interesting, so i picked up the food standup card ( the ones which shows you the restaurants latest food/set dinners/lunch), another small cockroach was around it moving. I pass the card to the waiter to move it elsewhere. Later again, a small cockroach appeared from the bottom table towards the top. Ok. I think its enough, time to switch tables.
Let me review the food, I was the one having the OX Tail soup. I'm quite a sucker for OX tail soup being a BIG fan of it. The OX Tail soup served here is the traditional indonesian style which you would expect lots of herbs, pepper and watery. The OX Tail soup set came w/ garlic bread. When I took a bite at the "bread", I'm sure i read it right, it was "bread, somehow i was served cookies! Hoping the soup would taste better, take a sip. Bland. No taste. Salt must be expensive these days. Finally, the ox tail itself. At least this taste better and they quite generous with the amount chunky tails in there.
Taste Rating: 2/10

When it comes to hygiene and cleanliness of food, I don't think one should compromise. If I see one cockroach I think I'll leave straight away. Unless one badly need a dose of diarrhoea to relieve his/her acute constipated bowels.
Has any one tried Lavinier Coffee & Bistro in Solaris Dutamas? The coffee is excellent; set breakfasts starting cheap which includes the coffee; and set lunches?
Good value.
The food looked good from the pictures, but cockroaches? Not good...
