Sala Thai Restaurant @ Male’, Republic of Maldives

Thursday, November 6, 2008

Thai cuisine refers to typical foods, beverages, and cooking styles common to the country of Thailand. Thai Cuisine is known for being hot and spicy and its balance of five fundamental flavors in each dish or the overall meal - hot (spicy), sour, sweet, salty and bitter (optional). Thai food is known for its enthusiastic use of fresh (rather than dried) herbs and spices as well as fish sauce. Thai food is popular in many countries.

Sala Thai located in Male’ (Maldives), just a couple blocks away from the Foreign Ministry Department (Building). Finding Sala Thai is like finding a treasure trove of delights, both aesthetically and culinary. The interior is very traditional. The wooden furniture and the draperies enhance the overall traditional style of the restaurant and makes for a cosy setting. Their Tom Yam Soup is the epitome of Tom Yam. It is served with slices fish fillet that is fresh and coconut milk (not bad at all). Besides, their specialize dishes such as Deep Fried Crab Cake (very good), Thai Fried Rice, Pandan Chicken (taste like batu, no taste and hard), and all the Thai dishes that you can comprehend.
What caught the attention were the adorable traditional uniforms that were donned by the service staff. All were well groomed, extremely polite, attentive and sincere. They seem to know the menu well so do ask for recommendations if you can’t figure out what to order from their extensive menu. By the way, the owner is a German.
