Lan Kwai Fong Café @ The Curve PJ

Friday, November 14, 2008

As you are aware that there are so many restaurants to choose from The Curve, it is quite hard to spot this café because their signboard is so small if you compare to other restaurants. Lan Kwai Fong Café is located in between Thai Express Restaurant and Kenny Rogers Restaurant. This café took the name ‘Lan Kwai Fong from a famous Hong Kong’s premiere dining and entertainment destination which home to over 100 restaurants and bars.
When looking at their menu, it’s such a headache that there are so many types of snacks, rice dishes, noodles, dim sum, colorful refreshing drinks and tong sui to choose from. They also offer set lunch at a price range from RM12-15 per pax (with a drink, soup, fruits and main course). After quite awhile struggling on to choose what to eat, decided to go for the set lunch. Their Yong Chow Fried Rice is good but not the best and portion wise is big if you compare to other ‘Char Chan Teng’ (Refer to more elaboration from our Editor, Mart).
Next, the Szechuan Spicy Minced Pork Dried Noodle, firstly, portion is very big, and the portion between Minced Pork and Noodle is almost 1 to 1. However, the dish is a little bit spicy for an average people and the noodle is basically overcooked.
As for the soup of the day, they didn’t shine away like other ‘Char Chan Teng’, they are the only one so far (at this price range), offer a good amount of mixed ingredients (chicken, carrot, vegetables, onions and others) in the soup and you could not understand why so many ‘Char Chan Tengs’ out there that offer substandard portion and pricey food or those who are plainly selling new ideas but overpriced food.
Point to note, if you are working nearby The Curve, it’s worth a drive to try out their set lunch, an above average portion with a good mixed of taste.

**Editor's Note (Mart): Ah Si practically said it all. Lan Kwai Fong Cafe is pretty much another "Hong Kong Food" restaurant which its just a trend sprouting everywhere. Its basically identical in terms of food variety with "Kim Gary's" / "Mong Kok Char Chan Teng". Of all the variety, you would have thought why in heavens would i choose to pay RM10++ for a plate of fried rice where you can easily paid for RM4-6 a plate. Simple. It was listed in the set lunch menu and the waiter said its one of the famous dishes there. Was it special ? No. Was it very good ? Passable. So whats the deal ? The deal is for RM12-15 bucks , u get a drink, soup of the day, dessert (fruits today) and a lunch meal. Looking for a good set lunch deal, then this one of them.
