Sunday, November 23, 2008
Egg Tart, Custard Tart or Custard Egg Tart are a kind of pastry popular in many parts of the world but particularly in Chinese cuisine. The tart consists of an outer pastry crust, filled with egg custard and then baked. Custard tart was introduced in Hong Kong in the 1940s by ‘Char Chan Teng’ and bakeries to compete with dim sum restaurants particularly for ‘yum cha’ session. It later evolved to become egg tarts today.
There are many egg tart bakeries in Malaysia and one has started since 1970 which is Tong Kee Brothers Confectionary. They have a number of branches within Klang Valley and their HQ is in Pudu. Tong Kee's egg custard is always well prepared, soft and not too sweet, it is rich with butter and the crust just melts the moment you put it in your mouth.
If you like Egg Tart, Tong Kee is where you can find the best egg tart within Klang Valley.
