Penang Flavours Café @ 1 Utama, Petaling Jaya
Friday, December 26, 2008
Newly open about a couple of weeks, the lack of empty tables at the Penang Flavours Café tells its own story. This is quite a popular eatery among the shoppers in 1 Utama. Penang Flavours catering patrons who are looking for a quick bite and reasonable priced between RM7-11. At those prices, it is hard to find fault with it.For starter/appetizer, the rojak is just nice with freshly cut cucumber, vegetables, pineapples and tofu using shrimp paste which gives sweetness, spicy and sour tastes (Ok, pass).
The Nasi Lemak Chicken Curry Kapitan is just average. Although it gives a spicy and kapitan flavour but somehow the sambal sotong (squid) and the chicken is not up to the Penang standard and quite oily too.
As for the Nasi Lemak Fried Chicken, it is the same stuff instead of Chicken Curry Kapitan, is just a fried chicken. Very normal, so so saja (average) and no sort of spices to enhance the chicken texture.
For the Curry Laksa (Mee), it comes with a couple of chicken balls, hard boiled egg, tauge, and some parsley garnished on top. The soup was flavorful and fine, but a bit to the oily side.
The atmosphere/ambiance is light and the quick turnaround in service makes this a good spot for lunch, whether you’re at 1 Utama, The Curve, Mid Valley or KLCC. Penang food may be better in Penang, but that’s a mighty long drive when you’re out shopping in KL/PJ.
